Would you like to give someone warm fuzzies?
Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 10:04PM I thought so!
The clinic where I work frequently diagnoses women with Breast Cancer. When we have a patient with a brand-new diagnosis, the
mammo ladies like to give her a Healing Shawl as a gesture of comfort.
The shawls are in large part knitted by the staff in our clinic, but we’re not able to keep up with the diagnoses. If you’re a knitter, and if you’re looking for a way to help someone through a difficult time, I’d be hugely grateful if you’d be willing to knit a Healing Shawl for
us.
To do so, you’ll need size 12 or 13 needles, and four skeins of soft acrylic yarn. The Red Heart Light & Lofty OR Baby Cloud yarns are popular for this project, and they’re cheapish.
Stitches: cast on 48 stitches. Garter stitch knitting all rows.
Fringe: Knit 2 skeins, then fringe the first end. Reserve enough yarn to fringe final end after all yarn has been knitted. Fringe length is your choice.
Length of shawl: whatever length your skeins produce.
If you don’t knit, but you have a friend who does, please pass this message on. I’ll be learning to knit for the occasion! There’s no time limit on this project, as (unfortunately) breast cancer diagnoses seem to be ongoing, but October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the mammo department is going to be busy.
If you decide to knit a shawl, please contact me at goatygoat (at) gmail (dot) com, and I’ll send you my mailing address.
Thanks, and happy knitting!

This is a beautiful idea and I am honored to make a healing shawl.
I can post this in one of the charity knitting groups on Ravelry if you like.
In fact, I would love that! Thanks, dearie!
